Common Questions

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 45 minutes. There are times when meeting for longer is helpful and can be discussed as part of our work.

How often do you typically see people?

This is very individualized. Generally, I meet with people once a week. There are times when this is not the case. Some people know at the outset that they require more time and support. Others see immediate benefits and wish to meet with greater frequency. In these instances, I see people up to several times per week, which can accelerate the pace of change.

What kind of therapy do you do?

I practice psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Take the example of a wilting flower. Where a practitioner of another tradition might look at the stem or leaves, focusing above ground at what is visible, the psychoanalytic approach is to dig under the flower, exploring that which is not readily seen. We examine the soil, the roots, the extensive network of underground resources. My work is holistic and open-ended. I aim to build consciousness where it may not yet exist.

How do I begin the process of working with you?

A brief phone call is a good place to start. This initial conversation allows me to understand a bit about your objectives and answer any questions. When you reach out, please leave a message with a few times when you will be in a private space for me to call you back. The best way to get a sense of how it will feel to work together is to then set up a first in-person session.

Is there anything I should expect or know going in?

Seeking help is growth in and of itself. It is often when we are our most vulnerable that something new breaks through. Together, we will build a container of safety and support to hold us as we work.

How does one get the most out of working with you?

Psychotherapy is just one of many powerful tools available to us. Those who engage in other modes of healing, learning, and exploration while in therapy often derive the greatest benefit. This could be a practice of movement, study, or worship—anything that allows you to access and be with your emotions will complement our work.

How much does working with you cost? Do you take insurance?

Please call to discuss my fee structure. My fees are commensurate with my level of training and years of experience in the field. I don’t accept insurance but can provide a monthly bill to submit to your provider. Patients have received substantial out-of-network reimbursement. I offer a sliding scale to patients who pursue intensive or intermediate treatment.
